Keeping up with Verstappen: Building a real-time AI Sim Racing engineer
This session explores the architecture and engineering challenges behind building a real-time, AI-powered race engineer designed to help an amateur sim racer beat Max Verstappen's Nürburgring lap time. While the premise is rooted in Sim Racing, the core of this talk is a deep dive into high-performance computing, event-driven architecture, and pushing the boundaries of AI latency. To build an AI that can analyse driving telemetry and issue verbal commands before a car hits a wall at 300km/h requires solving serious software engineering problems: Sub-second data streaming, strict context window management, and real-time text-to-speech generation.
